9th World Conference of Masonic Grand Lodges

Hyderabad, October 02.....: The ninth World Conference of Masonic Grand Lodges across the globe to be held in Washington DC in May, 2008 on 7th to 10th. Those brethren who wish to participate in the event may plan well in advance.

Speaking about the event, Robert B. Heyat, Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Washington D.C said The Grand Lodge of Free And Accepted Masons of Washington, DC is indeed honored to host the World Conference of Grand Lodges, for the first time ever, in the capital of the United States of America.

Adding further he stated in a communication on the website said `today, we live in a world that is truly global and finds itself at a major crossroads with change happening at lightening speed, insecurity rising across the globe and fanaticism on a deadly rampage. The world today needs Freemasonry more than ever. Given the universality of its character, its existence in so many places around the world, and the values and principles it espouses, the Society of the Freemasons is uniquely positioned to contribute to the global flow of enlightened ideas and help people of good will work together for the betterment of humanity. Can we rise to the challenge, answer the call, and fulfill our destiny as a beacon of universal light`?

To help us think through this fundamental question, we have designed a conference under the theme of `Universal Fraternity in Action` that we trust you will find to be instructive and enjoyable. The emphasis will be on the `actions` that our fraternity can and should be taking. How can we encourage Freemasons to be more engaged in today`s world while faithfully preserving the Tradition of our Society? What actionable proposals and recommendations can speakers offer to that end? We have identified three topics of discussion addressing a number of issues varying from promoting ethical behavior in civil society to establishing a network of exchanges among Masons worldwide.

Immediately following the conference, which will be held May 7 ` 9, 2008, the Grand Lodge of Washington, DC will hold its Universal Brotherhood Celebration on Saturday, May 10, 2008. The day will feature special tours of The White House and U.S. Capitol, a public wreath laying ceremony at the WWII Memorial, and a grand black tie (Tuxedo) banquet featuring Washington National Opera artists, he informed.

Tom Jackson, Executive Secretary of the World Conference asked the brethren to utilize this rare opportunity.

Those brethren who wish to make use of the opportunity may seek more details from webstie: www.glworldconference.org. A link to this site is also can be found on www.masonindia.org, the website of Grand Lodge of India. You can also reach the organisers on theri email: world@dcgrandlodge.org

New website on Freemasonry launched
Website aims to dispel misconceptions about the organization

Hyderabad, October 2: Lodge Keys No. 297 is now online at www.lodgekeys297.org. The new website on freemasonry was launched at an exclusive Masonic function organized here in city at the historic Goshamahal Baradari Masonic Building. The website was launched by Justice Devinder Gupta, Former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court who is also associated with Freemasonry as The Grand Master of Grand Lodge of India. Justice Gupta also launched on the occasion `Decade & Beyond` a book of history on Lodge Keys and flagged off `Masons on Wheels`, an all India road journey of Lodge Keys members connecting Freemasonry with Society and spread the message of Eye Donation.

According to Worshipful Brother D. Ramchandram, Worshipful Master, Lodge Keys No. 297, the website is as much as for the member as for the general public. It is aimed to inform the general public over the Internet of what freemasonry is about. And it shall help the members to connect, network, inform, educate and entertain. Currently we have 356 Lodges(primary units in Freemasonry like a club in other organisations), but hardly thirty Lodges have website. Where as in England, every Lodge has a website, he informed

Commenting on the launch of the website Justice Devinder Gupta said the launching of Website by the Lodge Keys No. 297 is the turning point in Freemasonry as it aimed at dispeling the prevailing notion that Freemasonry is a Secret Socity. It is also an endeavour to take Freemasonry close to socieity and its problems(eye donation in this case) and create awareness for the same and to instill more Freemasonry in Men by spreading the message and philosophy of Freemasonry, so that we not only have more men in Freemasonry, but also to ensure that more men will have more Freemasonry in them, informed D.Ramchandram, while making a presentation on the maiden website of the Lodge on the occasion of its launch.

W. Bro. P. Vijay Kumar, Asst. Regional Grand Master, W. Bro. M. S. Krishnan, Grand Secretary - Grand Lodge of India and Regional Grand Master - North India and members of sister lodges and lodge keys members were present on the occasion.

Many people perceive freemasonry as a secret society. But it is not. Though Freemasonry has been in existance for the past 3000 years all over the globe and in India 250 years and in twin cities 200 years, not many know about the organisation. It is only the rituals that we like to keep secret, informs Ram. The website aims to clear these kind of perceptions and more. Information about what freemasonry does and is about is given extensively on the site. The site covers topics such as Freemasonry in India and Andhra Pradesh, history, eminent freemasons from Indian and twin cities, interesting facts, news, FAQs and there is much more to come`

Lodge Keys No. 297 is part of FREEMASONRY, which is a 3,000 years old movement spread all over the globe. It has existed in India for over 250 years and in Andhra Pradesh for 200 years. Freemasons are deeply involved in helping people. From its earliest days, charity has been the most visible Masonic activity, with Freemasons concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged.

Freemasonry is one of the world`s oldest secular fraternal societies. It is a worldwide organisation based on the principle of the `Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man`. It is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its precepts by series of rituals, which follow ancient forms and use stonemason`s customs and tools and allegorical guides. The motto of Freemasonry is Brotherly Love, Relief & Truth.

Globally Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, Benjamin Fraklin, Henry Ford, Clive Lloyd and All Presidents of United States of America were its member. In India Swami Vivekananda, C. Rajagopalachari, Motilal Nehru, Fakruddin Ali Ahmed, Madhavrao Scindia, Nawab of Pataudi, locally several Nawabs of Nizam, many judges, bureaucrats, officers and well-respected individuals and others are its members. Some of the members from Andhra Pradesh include Nawab Sir Salar Jung Bahadur and Maharaja Sir Kishen Pershad (both Prime Ministers of the state of Hyderabad), Sir Terrence Keys (The British Resident), Raja Venkat Ram Reddy to name few from the list of distinguished personalities.

IPGM pens down his experiences in "Charge of Grand Master"

Bangalore, October 05: The immediate past Grand master Most Worshipful Brother Arun Chintopanth, holder of Order of Service to Masonry released a book "Charge of a Grand Master". Which is a compilation of some of the recorded speeches, addresses and articles of him as Grand Master of Grand Lodge of India during November 2003 to October 2006.

R.W. Bro. H.H. Marthanda Varma, Maharaja of Travancore wrote Foreward to the book. The contents are divided into several chapters such as Speeches at Annual meetings, at Craft Lodges, at Chapters, at RAM Lodges and writings in GLINDIA etc. This compilation of Masonic wisdom is worth reading for everybody as most us might have not been part of the meetings where theses speeches were delivered. The book is a treasure trove of Masonic information and one such about a freemasonry.

A lady who went to the market one evening and found a brand new shop opened. And as all new shops open, there was music and festoons and lights and decoration. Out of curiosity she walked into this new ship and to her surprise, found God behind the counter. She went up to God and asked "What do you sell here?"

"Everything your heart desires", said God.

The lady was excited. She decided to ask for the best things a human could wish for. So she said, "I want peace of mind and love and truth and happiness and beauty and strength and wisdom ". The she added, "Not just for me. For everyone on earth."

God smiled and said, "I think you`ve got me wrong, my dear. We don`t sell fruits here. Only seeds".

Freemasonry is like this shop. It has in it to offer seeds of Brotherly Love, of relief, of truth, of temperance, of fortitude, or prudence, of justice, of obedience, of fidelity, the freedom from fear and seeds and seeds of all other qualities, virtues and characteristics that can make the complete man.

Those who walk into the portals of Freemasonry are given these seeds and one hopes that every good man partakes of these seeds will use them and eventually transform himself into a better man.

Talking about brotherly love in a function to present long term jewel to a brother, in one of the sub sections Bro Chintopanth narrated a story of a Japanese Company which purchased a machinery from an American manufacturer in the 1930s. The Machine arrived in Japan, but, this Company had problems in installing and commissioning the Machinery. So they requested the American manufacturer to send some on to help them out. The Manufacturer promptly deputed a person for this purpose. Even before this person could start the work the Japanese sent a telegram to the American Manufacturer saying: "man too old; send younger man.". The American Company`s reply was "better use him. He invented the machine.".

Adding further he stated "The Grand Lodge of India has recognized the invaluable contribution made to the fraternity by this brother and has there appropriately honoured him with the coveted 60 years long term service jewel. I am not sure how many can achieve this rare and distinguished honour.

It is not so much the physical membership of the Institution for 60 years that is important. What is more important is that this brother has carried the faith, love and conviction for the institution in his heart for so many years. This is what we have to appreciate . As Emerson says" "What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters when compared to what lies within us".

Talking about Happiness he narrated a story of Mulla Nassaruddin upon death went up. After a week his wife was curious. She went to an occult and through a medium got in touch with Mulla. She asked, "Are you happy there?" "I am happier than ever before," he answered. "Ary you happier now than when you were in my company?" she asked.

Mulla had nothing to fear now. He was far away from his wife. So he replied bravely: "I am even happier than when I was with you".

Naturally the wife was more curious. She said: "Tell me something about what it is like in heaven".

"Who told you I`m in heaven?" said Mulla. " I am in hell". Just to tell you that a place cannot give happiness. We may enjoy a place. But that is not happiness.

Two men were sitting in a coffee shop sipping a cup of coffee and chatting. An attractive lady walked in. One man said "My God. that is my woman. I want to marry her. She will give me great happiness in life.". The other man replied", when you marry her and find happiness do tell me about it".

"Why do you say so?" asked this man. "For", replied the other, "She is my wife and source of all my unhappiness!".

Brethren, it is not an object, a place or even a person that can give us happiness....Bro Chintopanth goes on saying.

The book is woven with pearl of wisdom like the above and many.

Published by Lodge Bangalore No. 15, mother Lodge of Bro Arun Chintopanth, the book is not only motivating, but also, interesting as Bro. Arun always outlined his talks with humourous anecdotes, true life stories, quotes and incidents.

The book is released in the month of September. It is a huge volume of 320 pages printed by Oysters Advertising Pvt. Ltd

Charge of a Grand Master, like an other Masonic Charge that is intended to make an impact on the listener, is intended to make an impression on the reader mentioned in the synopsis of the book.

Freemasons gesture
Om Shanti Om, picture screened for Street, Physically challenged
and less previleged children

Hyderabad, November 12...: Few days to go for Children`s Day, the members of Lodge Keys No. 297, a local wing of Internationally well known Freemasonry organisation and their family members made this Sunday 11th a little difference to 67 underprevileged children from Hyderbad Council of Human Welfare and Govt Boys Hostel for Handicapped. For a change they took them the luxury of Shahrukh Khan starrer OM SHANTI OM picture at Vijeatha Theatre in Borabanda.

Disclosing this Master of Lodge Keys No. 297 D.Ramchandram informed that the Forty Street Children from Hyderabad Council of Human Welfare from Alkapuri and twenty seven physically challanged children from Govt Boys Hostel for Handicapped from Nalgonda Cross Roads were picked up in two luxury coaches to the film and treated royally. Attired in their Sunday best dress some with slippers and many without them, these 67 children together with the 35 members, their spouses and children of Lodge Keys watched the film and enjoyed. The children got a well deserved break from their routine lives and were entertained by freemasons members as well.

First we thrilled at the luxry bus, as we have never travelled in such buses. Next, the previlege of watching the new movie along with members of Freemasonry and their families. This is a wonderful occasion i will never forget in my life said Narender a boy who is handicapped of both the hands.

It was a touching moment to see a young physically challenged boy feeding chips to yet another physically challenged without two hands friend of his seated next to him. And also helping him drink a softdrink. There could never be a more memorable occasion than this said Mrs. Sunitha spouse of Veerabhadrudu a member of Lodge Keys No. 297.

The children who spoke at brief meeting held immediately after the show thanked the organisers and requested them to organise such pleasure giving activities occasionlly. The members also promised to take up more such programs in near future including providing entertainment to jail inmates, antakshari for senior citizes in the home for the aged etc.

We could see joy on their faces. For three hours children could forget everything and had the pleasure of watching a premier movie within few days after its release. Rs 13, 500/- the cost of the project is born by the members of Freemasonry.

Enthused by the overwhelming response from among our members, we would like to repeatedly take up such heart touching projects in near future, informed D.Ramchandram.
